Visiting Carers
YOU CAN make a difference by helping elderly and disabled people to live a fuller independent life in their own home.
What does the job involve?
Some of our clients need minimal assistance; others need total help with:
- Getting up, washing and dressing etc.
- Meal Preparation
- Shopping
- Cleaning
- Companionship
- Safety checks and medication prompts
Do I get regular clients?
We endeavour to give you regular clients on a regular basis – so that you get to know them and they get to know you. You would also be expected to do some holiday cover.
I haven’t got any care experience, does that make a difference?
No, experience helps but as long as you have a caring nature, we will give you all the training you need.
What training will be given?
We will give you a comprehensive induction before you start working and support you to gain the nationally recognised Care Certificate. We offer all staff the opportunity to undertake a Diploma Level 2 or 3 in Health and Social Care. We also have an on-going training programme which provides condition specific training covering for example Dementia, Parkinson’s Disease and Diabetes.
I am very experienced; do I still need to do the training?
Yes you do, even though you have experience you need to be familiar with the company policies and procedures.
How many hours can you give me?
We are flexible; we can give you anything from 10-40 hours per week. You need to let us know when you are available. If you have some weekend and or evening availability, we may be able to offer you a guaranteed hours contract.
I am not able to work weekends.
Our clients often need care 7 days per week, but we can be flexible, maybe you can too? Even an hour or two at the weekend could be very useful to us.
I am in receipt of benefits, does this cause a problem?
No – just let us know if there are any restrictions on the hours you can work and we will endeavour to give you the hours you require.
I am only able to work school hours.
We may be able to offer you some hours within school times, but may not be able to give as many hours as you require.
What will I be paid? When will I be paid? Will I be paid mileage?
Competitive pay rates - please contact us. You will be paid every 4 weeks, which is paid directly into your bank account. You will be paid mileage - please contact us to check the rates
If I have any problems, what should I do?
Whatever the problem you should contact the office or out of office hours, the on-call manager. There will always be somebody at the end of the phone to help you.
